Top Five Players in the 2016-2017 PBA
5) Japeth Aguilar (GIN) - 13.3ppg, 7.0rpg.
- Japeth has had just one good game in this series so far. He put up a 23-point, 12-rebound monster in Game 2, and Ginebra will need more of that if they are to equalize and have chance at actually winning the championship. Without Greg Slaughter and with Joe Devance's durability no longer at its peak, the onus really is on Japeth to step up big time.
4) Arwind Santos (SMB) - 13.7ppg, 9.7rpg, 2.0apg, 1.0bpg, 1.3spg, 2.3 triples per game.
Like Japeth, Arwind has really had just one great game in this series, but even then he has been reasonably productive alongside three-time MVP June Mar Fajardo. Santos has been able to stretch the Ginebra defense with his perimeter shooting, and he has been able to rebound and defend well. Right now, even if he doesn't put up eye-popping stats, he can help SMB in many different ways.
3) Scottie Thompson (GIN) - 12.0ppg, 9.0rpg, 5.3apg, 1.0spg.
Thompson's statement performance was Game 2, where he registered a jaw-dropping line of 18 points, 18 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. Given his size and position, it was absolutely shocking to see him be that productive, but, in many ways, Thompson is the kind of player who can blindside opponents with the way he can affect the game. He was shackled in Game 3, though, so he will probably look to bounce back strong in Game 3.
2) Alex Cabagnot (SMB) - 16.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 5.0apg, 2.0spg, 2.3 triples per game.
Cabagnot has been the most consistently productive player in the Finals, scoring 13 or more points in every contest while also grabbing a fair share of boards and handing out 5 dimes per outing. He has been deadly from long distance and has been a bloodhound on D. He is everything the Beermen need, and they will continue to count on him tonight and in the games to come.
1) June Mar Fajardo (SMB) - 14.7ppg, 11.0rpg, 2.3apg, 3.3bpg.
Where Fajardo goes, SMB goes, and the results have shown that so far. The Kraken's productivity has been directly proportional to the team's fate, and that means the Beermen will need him to be at his best against a club that has been able to contain him on more than one occasion this conference. If Fajardo can be consistent with the kind of production he delivered in Games 1 & 3, then SMB is well on its way to claiming the coveted perpetual trophy.
